Can you decipher common car safety features?
We all know that buying a car can be a difficult task even for the most knowledgeable, so it’s not surprising that in new research conducted by Co-op Insurance, 77% of the 2,000 respondents believed that safety ratings should be more clearly highlighted when buying a new or used car.
The study also revealed that the safety of a car is not on the shopping list for the majority of car buyers across the UK, with only 4% of the respondents placing car safety at the top of their car buying criteria. Are you one of the 68% who have no idea what the safety rating is on their car? Whilst more than half (54%) didn’t ask about car safety at all before, during or after making the purchase of their current car.
Many consumers are asking motor organisations to ensure that important safety information is clear and easily understandable, and a further 63% are asking for this to be included in all car documentation at the point of purchase.
James Hillon, director of products at Co-op Insurance, said: “Our research has found that safety just isn’t front of mind when consumers shop for a used car.
“By knowing more about the safety options that are available, we hope that this will lead to more informed buying decisions and, hopefully, safer choices leading to safer roads.”
